Insurance Operations Update for Transportation Sector during COVID-19 Pandemic

Posted by Tat Wong April 16, 2020

As our transportation clients are an essential service to this COVID-19 pandemic response, and insurance is an essential part of transportation operations, we want to share with you how Marsh, and the insurance industry, continues to be ready to assist you.

Our insurance company partners have assured us that their work from home situations allow them to be fully functioning and available.  Many have proactively developed plans around how to address reductions in vehicle use and revenues, as well as providing payment flexibility to help their clients through these challenging times. We will be working with all markets to ensure that changes in exposures are being addressed.

From a Loss Control or Risk Control perspective, our insurance company partners and Marsh Risk Control services are available using technology solutions, like video conferencing and conference calls to continue their work with you as required. Marsh Risk Consulting will work with you and provide support for fleet safety. This includes leveraging existing loss data/reports and video conferencing capabilities to talk through risk management programs, operational changes, and risk improvements that may affect loss estimates or risk profiles. Our reports and services includes: Fleet RiskGap Analysis, Risk Control Improvement Plans, High Risk Driver assessments, Crash Rate Analysis, as well as attend your conference calls with insurance company loss control representative to answer engineering questions after these reports have been completed. Note that the level of detail required will vary, and this may not eliminate the need for future in-person inspections.

This remote support approach helps to keep the social distancing protocols imposed on all of us, and helps to keep all of us safe. Much of the exchange of records as required is already done via email, and can continue to be effectively done in this way.

From an incident response perspective, our insurance company partners, and our insurance adjuster partners are ready to help, including attending a site visit as required, with appropriate protective equipment and practising safe social distancing protocols.

From a damaged equipment standpoint, our insurance company partners are familiar with using remote technologies to help adjust damage claims.

Our National Transportation team, along with our North American Transportation team, are regularly meeting via web conferencing technology, sharing emerging issues so we can work to get ahead of your concerns based on what we are seeing throughout North America.

We have been very focused on advocating for the impacts that COVID-19 has had on your business operations, and have strong relationships with our insurer partners to make sure your situation is heard.

Finally, we are proud of and thankful for our transportation clients for playing a critical role in helping all of us by being an important front line part of our COVID-19 pandemic response.
